A Bit About Me

As a recent graduate from Iowa State University, I have learned a tremendous amount of knowledge from the Greenlee School of Journalism and Mass Communication. Ranging from effective communications across a multitude of platforms, crisis management, strategic campaigning, and even photojournalism, I have acquired many skills to use in my future endeavors into the professional field.

The photos you see throughout this website are almost all taken by me, just using an iPhone. Photojournalism can be a great asset to any piece of writing work; the images help our readers and clients to gain inside knowledge to our thought processes and visions, while adding authenticity to any work.

Work Experience

January 2023 - Current

August 2022; August 2023

October 2021 - May 2022

Wooly's Event Venue - Server

- Through building connections in the music industry, I found my way to Wooly's as a part-time server. Working as a server for this venue has allowed me to meet new, diverse people with different backgrounds. This has also allowed me to dive into the world of the music industry, where I am able to experience the set up, execution, and developments of a wide variety of shows.

Hinterland Music Festival - Volunteer Staff

- Even though this music festival lasted for a mere four days, it was a life changing event. As a member of the volunteer staff, it was my responsibility to lead incident command for the festival volunteers, oversee projects for various areas, and create a welcoming environment for the volunteers to promote repeat volunteerism. Working before the sun rose to the early hours of the morning was challenging but a very rewarding experience. This position taught me to put others before myself, manage crises that arise in the form of personal/health issues in our volunteers, and communicate effectively with other festival staff to complete projects in an orderly and timely manner.

Youth Shelters and Services (YSS) - Writing Intern

- As a youth rehabilitation center, with locations scattered throughout Iowa, sharing news and personal testimonials not only benefits those already involved, but those seeking help. As a writing intern, I was able to strengthen my writing skills, write diverse pieces covering sensitive issues, and learn how to effectively communicate in the workplace. While creating effective writing pieces to share with the Iowan community, I also built a YSS Instagram Takeover series. This will allow staff members to share their day to day lives, showcase events taking place throughout the year, and to provide their publics the opportunity to get to know the staff behind the scenes.

September 2020 - January 2022

Outlaws Bar - Bartender

- As a server, I provided excellent customer service by communicating effectively with customers, working efficiently with coworkers, ensuring my areas were clean and well-kept, and accurately maintaining cash drawers and receipts to support business integrity. Skills developed: effectively communicating with others in a fast paced environment,  de-escalating high stress situations, and reading body language so as to not over-serve a patron.
